Theme Lab / About
Made for the details
A field guide to the colors, type, textures, and small decisions that make a website feel like its own place.
01 The maker
I’m Waylon Walker. I made Theme Lab to collect the palettes, typography, textures, and design details I use when building websites.
02 The tool
Theme Lab lets you compare color palettes, font pairings, surface textures, and repeating patterns in one live preview. Each palette has a light and a dark version. The preview shows how the choices work together across headings, body copy, controls, and panels.
Start with a palette, then open the Fonts tab to compare type families. Adjust surface strength and scale in the editor. The Pattern controls change the background glyph, color, spacing, and layer. You can cycle through themes with the Previous and Next buttons or the `[` and `]` keys or Alt with an arrow key.
03 Take a design with you
When a combination feels right, use the recipe panel to review its settings and copy the design tokens. The values give you a starting point for your own CSS. Change them to match your layout and content; a palette preview is a guide, not a finished page.
Your selections are saved in local storage on your device so you can return to the same combination. Use Reset defaults to return the editor to its starting palette, font pack, surface, and pattern. Read the privacy policy for details about local settings and diagnostics.
04 Check the details
The preview includes buttons, links, messages, cards, and code. That gives you a way to judge one combination across several common interface elements. A heading may look strong on its own but feel out of place beside small control labels. The preview helps reveal those mismatches before you copy the values.
